Student Vote:  All grade 4 and 5 students in our school had the opportunity to participate in a "student vote" that mirrored the federal election this month. Students filled the roles of election officials and ran a voting station out of our library.  Our student vote results can be seen at https://studentvote.ca/results/canada2019/

December Bits and Pieces

These are some of the poppyies that the 4/5's made. They got to pick which color glaze they wanted to use to remember.
Red poppys are to remember the soldiers and others that died in the war.
The white poppys symbolize peace. It started in England. They are to remember the civilian casualties - its someone who was not involved in war gets accidentally killed.

Purple poppys symbolize animals that died in the war, for  example:  horses, pigeons, dogs, mules, cats.
The Silver cross is an award to moms that have lost a son in war. This year the silver cross mom lost her son to suicide after he came home.  He had PTSD.  The silver poppy is to remember the soldiers who do not get killed in war, but still sacrificed a lot.

Grade 4/5 Lyle made gingerbread houses with their kindergarten buddies.  They look delicious!

Holiday Celebration

Both grade 4/5 classes will be having their class parties on Friday Dec 21st.
We will have party activities, the gift game and snacks (provided by select students) all morning.
The afternoon will involve a choice of either a movie or time on personal electronic devices (brought from home).  Students are welcome to wear their pajamas and bring a stuffy if they wish.

*Beaumont School cannot be responsible for lost or damaged personal electronic devices.

Gift game: This is optional.  If students wish to participate they are asked to bring in a small wrapped gift ($5.00 max) that would be appropriate for any student. All gifts will be from "anonymous".  Then we will play a game where gifts are distributed at random - just for fun.

Have a great break!

Predator - Prey

Predator - Prey

Predator prey was a fun game to play.  It is a game where you learn about animal habitats and food webs.

You also learn about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.  Both grade 4/5 classes participated together.

Every student was assigned to be one kind of animal.

If you had green tags, you were an herbivore and had to find food and water at stations in the forest and keep away from other animals.

If you were an omnivore, you had to wear a blue pinnie and find food and water at stations, and also catch a few herbivores.

If you were a carnivore you had to wear a red pinnie and find water at stations.  You had to get all your food by catching herbivores or omnivores and taking one of their “lives” or “babies”.

Adults and a few students with yellow vests were “humans” with the power to help animals or hunt them, or natural disasters / disease that could also kill animals (take a “life” card).

We hope to play this again!
