                                         Orange is delicious.
Orange is fresh cut and juicy, dripping
down your chin. Orange is sweet, like maple syrup on
pancakes. Orange is spicy masala in butter chicken. Orange
is happy, powdery fingers after eating cheese puffs.  Orange
is outdoors.  Orange is watching the sunset over the water in
the summer. Orange is the late blooming tiger lilies in the country
side. Orange is a deep canyon in the morning light.  Orange is the
desert in the heat of the midday sun. Orange is alarming. Orange
is a prowling tiger hunting prey in the jungle. Orange is a sly fox
running through the woods.  Orange is lava flowing from a

Personification is giving human traits to things, colours, qualities or ideas.  There are many ways to personify things so they seem human.
Stones
Stones know the answers.
Their roundness holds their peace
They dress casually,
Sometimes wearing coats of moss or lichen.
There are messages inside of stones
Deep memories of mountains and water and long ago.
So the next time you find yourself holding a stone, ask it what it knows.
Feel its texture, look carefully at its colours and hidden secrets.
Tap it softly like a drum, and toss it into a lake
Watch as it answers in ripples.

This is where we will be sharing what is happening in class around literacy.

Right now we are all reading the book Laura Monster Crusher by Wesley King aloud in class.
As we read, we are modeling and practicing strategies that support good reading.  We have focused on visualizing characters and settings over the past 2 weeks.

On Wednesday September 26 we will be going to the Manitoba Theatre for Young People to see Mr. King read some of his work, and talk about writing with our students.
